At one point during Friday's game with the hapless White Sox, catcher Rob Bowen went to the mound to hear what Lou Piniella said to Carlos Zambrano. But Rob later reported that he didn't learn much. "They spoke Spanish. I know about four words in Spanish."
Here at New Moon we have interpreters for Spanish, Japanese, South Side Chicago, and many other foreign languages. This is what Lou and Carlos said:
LP: Throw strikes.
CZ: I am.
LP: Throw the kind they can't hit.
CZ: I struck out twelve.
LP: Not enough. You let them get three hits.
CZ: We're still ahead.
LP: Not far enough. This new catcher may start throwing the ball into the outfield.
CZ: He looks kind of young.
LP: Doesn't matter. Don't start punching him. Just throw strikes and maybe he'll catch the ball.
CZ: OK, OK. Don't yell. And don't kick any more umpires.
LP: Just throw strikes and leave the umpires to me.
CZ: OK, Ok. What a grouch.
That, Rob, is exactly what they said. Honest.
