The List

The list gets longer and longer. Ryan Dempster, Aramis Ramirez, Kerry Wood, Billy Petrick, and on and on. All these are Cub players who were on the disabled list, are on it now, or will be on it in the future.

Baseball is a game that causes injuries. Pitchers are especially vulnerable.

I attended a talk by Bob Feller, the great Cleveland pitcher, a few years ago. He said he was lucky that he never got injured, but he still remembered the dangers.

After the talk, everyone went outside, and Feller gave some pointers to a couple of young pitchers. Someone asked him if he'd like to throw a couple of pitches. He was 80 years old at the time.

"I don't think so," he said. "I don't want to get a rotator cuff injury."

And he wasn't kidding.
