Carla Thomas is not your typical student. First of all, she already has a degree in medicine. Ms. Thomas is a doctor, a family doctor, and if you live in or near Anniston, Alabama, you could become one of her patients.
If I ever made it through medical school, I'd consider myself lucky. But Dr. Thomas has more ambition than I. She wants to become the surgeon general of the United States.
In order to reach that goal, Dr. Thomas wants to earn a Ph.D. in healthcare administration. But family doctors don't really have the time to go off to a distant campus. That's where capella university enters our story.
Capella is a fully online university with 17,900 students who, like Carla Thomas, don't have time to leave home to earn an advanced degree.
If you would like to learn more about Dr. Thomas's pursuit of an online Ph.D., you can listen to an interview with her on Capella's Inside Online Education podcast at capella.edu or capellacommons.com. Listeners can subscribe to the podcast RSS feed at capellacommons.com/rss/. They are also available via subscription from iTunes.
Capella University offers 82 graduate and undergraduate specializations and 16 certificate programs. It has students through the United States and in 56 foreign countries. For more information, log on to capella.edu, or call 1-888-CAPELLA (227-3552).
