Bad news for Nicole Richie fans. Last December, she was arrested for drunk driving, and her case has now reached the courts.

Hovering in the background is the allegation that Richie had an earlier drunk-driving conviction in 2003. Under California law, a second conviction for drunk driving could get you up to one year in jail. The minimum conviction would be four days in jail.

I do hope the state of California is building new jails to house all the rich and beautiful drunks who can't remember to take a cab.

But regardless of all that, if Nicole finds herself in front of a hanging judge, you might not see Miz Richie for 365 days.
