The rockets red glare and the bombs bursting in air are reminiscent of what the Nats did to the Cubs on Independence Day, 2007. Francis Scott Key wasn't there to see it, but the Nationals shelled the Chicago Cubs.
Rich Hill gave up six runs and ten hits, including a grand-slam homer. He lasted six innings.
Dmitri Young provided much of the fireworks, unloading his grand-slam homer in the fifth inning. The Cubs scored no homers and no runs over the course of nine innings.
The Cubs now drop to 42-42 in the Central Division. The division-leading Milwaukee Brewers lost to Pittsburgh.
