Home Run Drought

Every time I open my ears, someone says he's sad that the Cubs aren't hitting more home runs. People worry about this alleged problem in spite of the fact that the Cubs have been winning games despite a derth of homers.

The fact is that you win games with singles, not homers. Swinging for the fences is a good way to strike out. It's easier to hit singles, and if the team is loaded with players who hit them, those singles will create RBI's.

Home runs may get the crowd excited, but if you want to finish first in your division, try hitting singles.
