U.S. Media in Peril

Certain people from within and without the United States now pose a threat to the free flow of ideas in the news media. The most dangerous foreigner on the list is Rupert Murdoch, who was born into a wealthy Australian family 76 years ago. Using the wealth and influence of that family, Murdoch increased its newspaper fortune by billions of dollars.

In 1985, Murdoch became a citizen of the United States in order to circumvent American laws, which stated that only U.S. citizens could own American television stations. Through his corporation News Corp, Murdoch now owns the Fox Network, 35 television stations, Fox News, and other media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.

Murdoch is a right-wing fanatic. When you hear his television news broadcasters supporting the neoconservative line, you are listening to the voice of Rupert Murdoch. More than any other news organization, News Corp helped push the United States into the
disastrous Bush-Cheney war with Iraq.

Referring to his latest acquisition, the Wall Street Journal, Rupert recently announced that he would tinker with the paper in order to "get it right." Trust me, he's not talking about the price per share of General Electric.
