Judge Michael Mukasey, Bush's nominee for attorney general, was sworn in earlier today. This appointment came on the heals of the firing of eight federal judges who refused to decide cases according to the wishes of the Bush-Cheney administration.
In his hearing before Congress, Mukasey refused to say that the practise of "water boarding" was a form of torture. U.S. interrogators and mercenaries have used this technique to force answers from detainees. Mukasey refused to say whether this form of interrogation was or was not torture. Those who have survived this technique have no doubt that it is.
