Death and Soccer

I like sports as much as the next guy, but I think I'll avoid Italian soccer games in the future. The fans of two different teams got into a fight with each other in Tuscany on Sunday. The police arrived to break up the brawl, and in the mayhem, one of the fans was shot dead.

As if this wasn't enough trouble, a group of fans in Rome started a riot in reaction to the shooting. Hundreds of young people blocked a bridge over the Tiber River, attacked a police station, and set fire to a police car.

A game at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome was cancelled, which was easily the best decision of the day.
