The Cubs will activate Kerry Wood prior to Friday's game with the Mets.
His fastballs are topping out at circa 95 miles per hour these days, but don't expect miracles.
If you think Wood can carry an entire baseball team into the playoffs, you probably also think he can walk on Lake Michigan.
The Cubs need a solid rotation of starting pitchers. They also need consistent base hits. Right now they have neither.
