CIA Tapes Destroyed

CIA operative Michael Hayden admitted Thursday that in 2005 the CIA had destroyed videotapes showing interrogations of prisoners at the notorious Guantanamo Bay POW camp. The September 11 Commission appointed by G. Bush and the Congress had previously asked the CIA for any such tapes. The CIA said none existed. The commission completed its work in 2004. According to Hayden, the tapes were not destroyed until 2005.

Hayden offered few details about the tapes, but "knowledgeable U.S. officials" told reporters that the tapes showed hours of "aggressive interrogation methods." These methods include sleep deprivation, waterboarding, and other forms of what sane people call torture.
