Boos at Wrigley

Throughout the 2007 season, the Chicago Cubs have perfected the ability to turn certain victory into appalling defeat. The most recent example of this ability displayed itself on Thursday when Alfonso Soriano's two homers sent the Cubs into the ninth inning with a 4-3 lead over the Dodgers.

The Cub bullpen went into meltdown, and the Dodgers promptly pounded out four runs and won the game 7-4.

Cub fans responded with a chorus of boos for the North Side boys of winter.

Boos have become common in Wrigley Field of late, and a minor debate has developed over whether fans should or should not boo our hometown heroes.

The editorial staff of New Moon has reached a verdict: Our boys of winter are paid millions of dollars to win games. When you make that kind of money and you don't win, you deserve extra compensation in the form of boos.

If a bus driver on the Clark Street run takes his riders to Hyde Park, those riders will make uncomplimentary remarks about the driver. Why should baseball millionaires deserve better treatment than that?
