Fast Boats

The press and the Bush administration are worried about Iranian fast boats. Five of these boats apparently approached three U.S. warships as they sailed into the Persian Gulf, and the Pentagon got all upset. They were afraid the Iranians might launch an attack.

By contrast, the Iranian authorities did not get upset. A spokesman said that once the men in the fast boats saw whose warships were sailing by, they turned and left.

Consider the nature of a fast boat. These things are about twice the size of a rowboat that you might use to go fishing. About the only weapons you could take on one of these things is an assault rifle.

What are Bush and the Pentagon really worried about?

Will We Attack Iran?

Do Geo. Bush and Dick Cheney intend to attack Iran? The people at DontAttackIran.com think they do, and they don't like the idea one bit.

If you agree with the people at this web address, you can log on and sign a petition for the Joint Chiefs of Staff
and All U.S. military personnel urging them to refuse an illegal order to attack Iran. If you don't agree, you might not want to log on at all.

The editorial staff at New Moon is undecided about this issue, and we cannot give any advice about it. We are passionately undecided. Don't ask us what to do.

Did Bush Know?

Here's the latest news from the White House. Bush now says that our chief spy told him last August that he had new info about Iran and its nuclear weapons program. But Bush says no one gave him that news until last week.

Several people, including presidential candidate Joe Biden, don't buy the Bush story. He says the story is "unbelievable." But if it is true, Biden says, Bush ranks with "the most incompetent presidents in modern American history."

In spite of the new intelligence report, Bush says Iran is still a grave threat to the world. Perhaps it is also a threat to the world's oil.

Nukes Or No Nukes?

For longer than I care to remember, Geo. Bush has been telling us that Iran is about to blow us off the map with nuclear weapons. Only six weeks ago, he suggested that we have to stop Iran before it starts World War III.

But now our own National Intelligence Estimate, which states the latest info from 16 spy outfits, says that Iran stopped its bomb program in 2003 and shows no interest in restarting it.

All this raises questions about whether Iran ever had any real interest in nuclear WMDs. Was Iran merely bluffing in order to get something from the U.S.? That's what North Korea did. Who's next?

And will Bush continue to prepare us for war with Iran? Who knows?
