Jacque Jones starred on both defense and offense Friday as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 2-1 and vaulted into first place in the Central Division, half a game ahead of the Brewers.
Jones made a leaping catch against the wall in center field in the fifth inning to rob Brendan Ryan of an extra-base hit.
In the sixth, after Ryan Theriot hit a single, Jones hit a two-run homer, giving the Cubs their only runs of the day, the only runs they needed.

Good News From Jacque Jones
In an effort to find some good news after today's loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, consider the recent performance of Jacque Jones.
In today's game, Jones hit a double and scored on Angel Pagan's triple. Prior to all this, Jones was hitting .391 during the present 10-game home stand.
During that same period, Jones gathered three runs, three walks, and six RBIs. All this is far better than his performance during the first half of the season.
If Jones continues to hit in this way, the Cubs may well finish the season above .500.
